Kathy Baker, 24, won her firstLPGA Tour event and onlymajor title, three strokes ahead of runner-upJudy Clark (later Dickinson).[2][3] Baker (later Guadagnino) held the lead after 54 holes at 210 (−6), one stroke ahead of Clark and 36-hole leaderNancy Lopez.[1][4]
The 153-player field included 24 amateurs.[5]
The Upper Course previously hosted theU.S. Open in1936, won byTony Manero. The U.S. Women's Open in1961 was played on the more renowned Lower Course, whereMickey Wright won the third of her four titles.
