The1985 NFL draft was the procedure by whichNational Football League teams selected amateurcollege football players. Thedraft was held April 30 and May 1,1985, at theOmni Park Central Hotel inNew York City,New York.[1][2] The league also held asupplemental draft after the regular draft and before the regular season.

The first six selections of the draft made at least onePro Bowl, and three of the first 16 picks —Bruce Smith,Chris Doleman, andJerry Rice — have been inducted into thePro Football Hall of Fame.

For the second consecutive draft, there were no quarterbacks chosen in the first round (Day One).[3] TheBuffalo Bills used thefirst overall pick of the draft to select defensive end Bruce Smith.Randall Cunningham was the first quarterback selected (second round) by thePhiladelphia Eagles. Of note,University of Miami quarterbackBernie Kosar was taken by theCleveland Browns in the supplemental draft several months later.
