The1984 United States presidential election in Montana took place on November 6, 1984, and was part of the1984 United States presidential election. Voters chose four representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.
Montana overwhelmingly voted for theRepublican nominee,PresidentRonald Reagan, over theDemocratic nominee, formerVice PresidentWalter Mondale. Reagan won Montana by a landslide margin of 22.29%. This was the last time a Republican presidential nominee won over 60% of the vote in Montana.
As of the2024 presidential election[update], this is the last election in whichGlacier County voted for a Republican presidential candidate and the last time until2016 thatRoosevelt County voted Republican.[1] Reagan became the first ever Republican to win the White House without carryingBig Horn County.
Despite this, Democratic GovernorTed Schwindenwon re-election with 70% of the vote on the same ballot.
