On election day, 2 November 1982,Democratic nomineeRobert Abrams won re-election by a margin of 1,496,476 votes against his foremost opponentRepublican nomineeFrances A. Sciafani, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Attorney General. Abrams was sworn in for his second term on 3 January 1983.[2]
