The team entered 1977 as the two-time defending World Series champions, but finished in second place in theNational League West, with a record of 88–74, 10 games behind theLos Angeles Dodgers and missed the playoffs. The Reds were managed bySparky Anderson and played their home games atRiverfront Stadium.
