Chris Evert defeatedEvonne Goolagong in the final, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the1975 US Open. It was her firstUS Open title, following four consecutive semifinal finishes at the tournament, and her fourthmajor singles title overall.

Billie Jean King was the reigning champion, but did not compete this year.

This was the first edition of the tournament to be played onclay courts, having previously been held ongrass. It would change surfaces again, tohardcourt, just three years later in1978.
