The1973San Diego Padres season was the fifth season in franchise history.
Dave Winfield came to the Padres in 1973 from theUniversity of Minnesota without having played a single game in theminor leagues. Winfield was also drafted by theMinnesota Vikings of theNational Football League, theAtlanta Hawks of theNational Basketball Association and theUtah Stars of theAmerican Basketball Association. Winfield made hisMajor League Baseball debut on June 19 against theHouston Astros. Winfield had 4at bats and 1hit.[3]
