Ilie Năstase defeatedNikola Pilić in the final, 6–3, 6–3, 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the1973 French Open.^[1] It was his second and lastmajor singles title, after the1972 US Open. Năstasedid not lose a set during the tournament.

Andrés Gimeno was the defending champion, but lost in the second round toGuillermo Vilas.

This was the first major appearance for future world No. 1, six-timeFrench Open champion, and eleven-time major championBjörn Borg; he lost in the fourth round toAdriano Panatta.
