The1972 All-America college football team is composed ofcollege football players who were selected asAll-Americans by various organizations and writers that choseCollege Football All-America Teams in 1972. TheNational Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recognizes six selectors as "official" for the 1972 season. They are:[1] (1) theAmerican Football Coaches Association (AFCA) which selected its team for Kodak based on a vote of the nation's coaches;[2] (2) theAssociated Press (AP) selected based on the votes of sports writers at AP newspapers;[3] (3) theFootball Writers Association of America (FWAA) selected by the nation's football writers;[4] (4) theNewspaper Enterprise Association (NEA) selected based on the votes of sports writers at NEA newspapers;[5] (5) theUnited Press International (UPI) selected based on the votes of sports writers at UPI newspapers;[6] and (6) theWalter Camp Football Foundation (WC).

Eight players are recognized by the NCAA as unanimous All-America selections. They are: (1) wide receiver and 1972Heisman Trophy winnerJohnny Rodgers ofNebraska; (2) tight endCharles Young ofUSC; (3) offensive tackleJerry Sisemore ofTexas; (4) offensive guardJohn Hannah ofAlabama; (5) running backGreg Pruitt ofOklahoma; (6) defensive tackleGreg Marx ofNotre Dame; (7) middle guardRich Glover of Nebraska; and (8) defensive backBrad Van Pelt ofMichigan State.[7]
