The1970–71 season was the 68th season of competitivefootball inBelgium.Standard Club Liégeois won their 6thDivision I title.[1]RFC Brugeois reached the quarter-finals of the1970–71 European Cup Winners' Cup.K Beerschot VAV won theBelgian Cup final againstK Sint-Truidense VV (2-1 after extra time).[2] TheBelgium national football team started theirUEFA Euro 1972 qualifying campaign as they were drawn in Group 5 withPortugal,Scotland andDenmark. They won all of their first 4 games and finished the season at the top of Group 5, 2 points ahead of Portugal with 2 matches to go.[3]
At the end of the season,R Charleroi SC andARA La Gantoise were relegated to theDivision II, to be replaced byKSV Cercle Brugge andKV Mechelen from Division II.
The bottom 2 clubs in Division II (ASV Oostende KM andKSV Sottegem) were relegated to Division III, to be replaced byKSK Tongeren andK Boom FC from Division III.
The bottom club of each Division III league (VC Westerlo,RC Tirlemont,Kortrijk Sport andR Jet de Bruxelles) were relegated to the Promotion, to be replaced byR Herve FC,Wavre Sports,K Helzold FC andKSC Lokeren from Promotion.
