  • Broadcast relay station at Hikurangi, Horokaka, Parahaki Hill andMount Egmont are commissioned, extending television coverage to central Northland and Taranaki.[9]
  • The programCountry Calendar first appears on television.
  • TheC'mon music program, hosted byPeter Sinclair, begins.
  • First broadcast ofRadio Hauraki from a boat called the TIRI in theHauraki Gulf outside of New Zealand waters in an attempt to break the Government Monopoly on the New Zealand radio airwaves.
