National Football League draft
The1965 NFL draft was held at the Summit Hotel in New York City on Saturday, November 28, 1964.[2][3][4] Thefirst player selected wasTucker Frederickson,back fromAuburn, by theNew York Giants.[5]
The draft was marked by the failure of theSt. Louis Cardinals to sign quarterbackJoe Namath ofAlabama, who instead committed to theNew York Jets of the rivalAmerican Football League for a record contract amount.[2] TheAFL draft was held the same day.
