The 1958 Alaska House of Representatives election was held on November 26, 1958, inAlaska's last days as a territory to elect members of the1st Alaska State Legislature. All 40 seats of the House were up for election, with 33 seats being won byDemocrats, one byIndependent Democrat Harold Z. Hansen, five byRepublicans, and one bypolitical independent and future Republican GovernorJay S. Hammond.[1]
Warren A. Taylor fromFairbanks was electedHouse speaker on January 26, 1959, three weeks afterAlaska became the 49th state.[2]
