The1956 United States presidential election in Georgia took place on November 6, 1956, as part of the1956 United States presidential election . Georgia voters chose 12[ 3] representatives, or electors, to theElectoral College , who voted forpresident andvice president .
Georgia was won byAdlai Stevenson (D –Illinois ), running withSenator Estes Kefauver , with 66.48% of the popular vote againstincumbent PresidentDwight D. Eisenhower (R –Pennsylvania ), running with Vice PresidentRichard Nixon , with 32.65% of the popular vote.[ 4] [ 5] Eisenhower also remains the most recent Republican president to win more than one term without carrying Georgia once. This was the last time until2016 a Republican won the White House without carrying Cobb County . This was also the last time until 2016 that a losing Democrat would carry the suburban Atlanta Counties of Gwinnett , Douglas , Rockdale , and the aforementioned Cobb and the last time until2020 that a Republican president would not carry these counties in either of their of elections.
