Two-time defending championMaureen Connolly defeatedDoris Hart in the final, 6–2, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1953 U.S. National Championships. With the win, she became the first woman in history to complete theGrand Slam.^[1] Connolly won the tournament without losing a set.^[2]
