The1952 Texas gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 1952.
IncumbentDemocraticGovernorAllan Shivers was overwhelmingly reelected in the general election after defeating future SenatorRalph Yarborough in the Democraticprimary. TheRepublican Party endorsed the Democratic state ticket, including Shivers, in order to attract more votes for their presidential nominee, GeneralDwight D. Eisenhower.
Primary elections were held on July 26, 1952.[1]

Shivers endorsed theRepublican nominee forPresident,Dwight D. Eisenhower, in theconcurrent presidential election.[6] In an attempt to maximize support for Eisenhower, the state Republican Party nominated the Democratic state ticket, allowing voters to cast a straight GOP ballot without voting against down-ballot Democratic candidates.[7][8]
