Donnelly, over theRepublican candidate, formerSpeaker of the Missouri House of RepresentativesHoward Elliott,[1] and candidates representing theProgressive,Socialist andSocialist Labor parties. Donnelly defeated representativePhil J. Welch for his party's nomination.
