The1948–49Montreal Canadiens season was the40thseason in club history. The Montreal Canadiens were eliminated in the semi-finals against theDetroit Red Wings 4 games to 3.

Regular season

Bill Durnan set a long-standing modernNHL record between February 26 and March 6, 1949, when he amassed four consecutiveshutouts, not allowing a goal over a span of 309 minutes, 21 seconds.[1] This record was not surpassed until2003–04, whenBrian Boucher, then of thePhoenix Coyotes, broke it.
