Parliamentary elections were held inBulgaria on 18 November 1945,[1] the country's first to featureuniversal suffrage for women.[2] TheBulgarian Agrarian National Union and theBulgarian Communist Party both won 94 seats.[3] Voter turnout was 84.8%.[4]
For the first time, women could stand as candidates, withStoyanka Ancheva,Ekaterina Avramova,Tsola Dragoycheva,Stanka Ivanova,Tsvetana Keranova [bg],Elena Ketskarova,Mara Kinkel,Venera Klincharova,Vyara Makedonska,Stefana Markova,Ekaterina Nikolova,Rada Todorova,Mata Tyurkedzhieva,Maria Toteva andVera Zlatareva becoming the first women in the National Assembly.[5]
