The1944 United States presidential election in Montana took place on November 7, 1944, as part of the1944 United States presidential election. Voters chose four representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.
Montana voted to giveDemocratic nominee,PresidentFranklin D. Roosevelt a record fourth term, over theRepublican nominee,New York GovernorThomas E. Dewey. Roosevelt won Montana by the substantial margin of 9.35%. This was the last occasionGallatin County voted for a Democratic presidential candidate untilBarack Obama carried the county in2008, as well as the last time until that election that Montana would back a different presidential candidate thanColorado.[1]
Roosevelt remains the last Democratic presidential candidate to have carried Montana more than once.
