The1936 United States presidential election in Pennsylvania took place on November 3, 1936, as part of the1936 United States presidential election. Voters chose 36 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.

Pennsylvania voted for theDemocratic nominee,PresidentFranklin D. Roosevelt, over theRepublican nominee,Kansas GovernorAlf Landon, by a large margin of 16.04%. After the state voted to re-elect incumbent RepublicanHerbert Hoover in 1932, Roosevelt became the first Democrat to win Pennsylvania since native sonJames Buchanan in1856.

Roosevelt's victory marked the beginning of the state's shift from a Republican stronghold to a keyswing state, and began a Democratic winning streak in the city ofPhiladelphia which has yet to be broken. Pennsylvania has backed the winning candidate in all but four presidential elections since (1948,1968,2000, and2004).

As of the2024 presidential election[update], this is the only election since 1856 in whichLebanon County has voted for a Democratic presidential candidate.[1] Roosevelt became the first Democrat sinceFranklin Pierce in1852 to winArmstrong County and the first since 1856 to winBlair County,Dauphin County, andPhiladelphia County. Mifflin County voted Democratic for the first time since 1884.[2][3]
