Elections in New Mexico

The1932 United States presidential election in New Mexico took place on November 8, 1932. All contemporary forty-eight states were part of the1932 United States presidential election. State voters chose three electors to represent them in theElectoral College, which voted forPresident andVice President.

New Mexico was won byNew York GovernorFranklin D. Roosevelt in a 27-point landslide against incumbent presidentHerbert Hoover, who failed to gain reelection.[1] He won every county saveValencia andSan Miguel. As of 2024, this remains the best presidential performance in New Mexico history.

Roosevelt was the first Democrat to ever winDoña Ana County,Rio Arriba County,Santa Fe County,Taos County, andTorrance County. Roosevelt failed to flipSan Miguel County andValencia County (the latter being by far the most Republican county in the state at the time), though his share of the vote in each county was the highest ever achieved by a Democrat to that point. Roosevelt would ultimately flip both counties in thefollowing election.
