The1916 Georgia gubernatorial election was held on 7 November 1916 in order to elect theGovernor of Georgia.Democratic nomineeHugh Dorsey overwhelmingly defeatedRepublican nominee Roscoe Pickett andSocialist party candidate Thomas M. Taylor.[1] It was the first gubernatorial election to be contested by the Republican Party since1876, and the last they would contest until1966.
On election day, 7 November 1916,Democratic nomineeHugh Dorsey won the election by a margin of 135,555 votes against his foremost opponentRepublican nominee Roscoe Pickett, thereby holding Democratic control over the office of Governor. Dorsey was sworn in as the 62nd Governor ofGeorgia (US State) on 30 June 1917.[2]
