The1888 Minnesota Secretary of State election was held on November 6, 1888, in order to elect theSecretary of State of Minnesota.Republican nominee andincumbent Secretary of StateHans Mattson defeatedDemocratic nominee William Bredenhagen,Prohibition nominee Peter Thompson andUnion Labor nominee John P. Schoenbeck.[1]
On election day, November 6, 1888,Republican nomineeHans Mattson won re-election by a margin of 36,567 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic nominee William Bredenhagen, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of Secretary of State. Mattson was sworn in for his third overall term on January 9, 1889.[2]
