The1886 Minnesota Secretary of State election was held on 2 November 1886 in order to elect theSecretary of State of Minnesota.Republican nominee and former secretary of stateHans Mattson defeatedDemocratic nominee Luther Jaeger andProhibition nominee C.A. Bierce.[1]
On election day, 2 November 1886,Republican nomineeHans Mattson won the election by a margin of 18,544 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic nominee Luther Jaeger, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of Secretary of State. Mattson was sworn in for his second non-consecutive term on 5 January 1887.[2]
