Season1886–87 was the eleventh season in whichHeart of Midlothian competed at aScottish national level, entering theScottish Cup for the eleventh time.
Hearts reached the third round of theScottish Cup and were knocked out by Edinburgh rivalsHibs.[1] They also competed in theFA Cup being knocked out byDarwen in the first round.[2]
Later that season they reached the final of the East of Scotland Shield losing for the second time in the season to Hibs.[3]
