The1885 United States Senate election in California was held on January 28, 1885, by theCalifornia State Legislature to elect aU.S. Senator (Class 3) to represent the State ofCalifornia in theUnited States Senate. In a special joint session, former Republican GovernorLeland Stanford was elected over former Democratic State AssemblymanGeorge Hearst.[1]
