The1882 Arkansas gubernatorial election was held on 4 September 1882, in order to elect theGovernor of Arkansas.Democratic nominee and former member and Speaker of theArkansas House of RepresentativesJames H. Berry defeatedRepublican nominee W. D. Slack andGreenback nominee and former representative from Arkansas in theConfederate Congress from the2nd DistrictRufus King Garland Jr..[1]

General election

On election day, 4 September 1882,Democratic nomineeJames H. Berry won the election by a margin of 38,297 votes against his foremost opponentRepublican nominee W. D. Slack, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Governor. Berry was sworn in as the 14th Governor ofArkansas on 13 January 1883.[2]
