The1876 United States presidential election in Alabama took place on November 7, 1876, as part of the1876 presidential election. Alabama voters chose ten representatives, or electors, to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.[2]

Alabama was won bySamuel J. Tilden, the formergovernor of New York (DNew York), running withThomas A. Hendricks, thegovernor of Indiana, with 59.98% of the popular vote, againstRutherford B. Hayes, thegovernor of Ohio (R-Ohio), running withRepresentativeWilliam A. Wheeler, with 40.02% of the vote.[2] This was the first time since 1852 that Alabama backed the losing candidate in a presidential election with the primary opponent listed on the ballot.[a]
