The1876 Illinois lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on 7 November 1876 in order to elect thelieutenant governor of Illinois.Republican nomineeAndrew Shuman defeatedDemocratic nominee andincumbent acting lieutenant governorArchibald A. Glenn andGreenback nominee James H. Pickrell.

General election

On election day, 7 November 1876,Republican nomineeAndrew Shuman won the election by a margin of 22,197 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic nomineeArchibald A. Glenn, thereby gaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. Shuman was sworn in as the 21stlieutenant governor of Illinois on 3 January 1877.[1]
