The 1873–74 season was the third season of competitivefootball in England.Oxford University beat theRoyal Engineers 2–0 in the FA Cup[1]
When the Football Association football was formed in 1863, the sport was played mainly bypublic schools, or teams with public school roots, andamateurism was the norm. This remained the case until the 1880s, when working-class teams began to vie for supremacy.[2]
