The1871 California lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on 6 September 1871 in order to elect thelieutenant governor of California.Republican nominee andincumbentCalifornia State TreasurerRomualdo Pacheco defeatedDemocratic nominee and incumbentPresident pro tempore of the California State Senate Edward J. Lewis.[1]

General election

On election day, 6 September 1871,Republican nomineeRomualdo Pacheco won the election by a margin of 5,158 votes against his opponentDemocratic nominee Edward J. Lewis, thereby gaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. Pacheco was sworn in as the 12thlieutenant governor of California on 8 December 1871.[2]
