The1867 California gubernatorial election was held on September 4, 1867, to elect thegovernor of California. The election pittedDemocratHenry Haight AgainstNational UnionistGeorge Gorham. CongressmanJohn Bidwell had also sought theNational Union nomination, but lost due to his anti-monopoly stance.[1] Haight Defeated Gorham by slightly over ten points. Republicans opposed to Gorham, who had support from pre-war Unionist Democrats, ran an alternate Republican ticket headed by Caleb T. Fay.[2]
