The1860 Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice special election was aspecial election held on Tuesday, April 3, 1860, to elect the chief justice of theWisconsin Supreme Court. Incumbent appointed chief justiceLuther S. Dixon very narrowly won election to a partial term.
After the sudden death of Chief JusticeEdward V. Whiton, GovernorAlexander Randall appointedLuther S. Dixon as chief justice of the court, pending thespecial election. Dixon ran in the special election for the remainder of Whiton's unexpired term.[1][2]
