The1860 United States presidential election in Tennessee took place on November 6, 1860, as part of the1860 United States presidential election. Voters chose 12 representatives, or electors, to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.

Tennessee was won by theConstitutional Union candidate and Tennessee nativeSenatorJohn Bell and his running mate the 15thGovernor of MassachusettsEdward Everett. They defeated theSouthern Democratic candidate14thVice President of the United StatesJohn C. Breckinridge ofKentucky) and his running mateSenatorJoseph Lane ofOregon as well asDemocratic candidateSenatorStephen A. Douglas ofIllinois and his running mate41st Governor of GeorgiaHerschel V. Johnson. Bell won the state by a narrow margin of 3.17%.

Republican Party candidate and president-electAbraham Lincoln was not on the ballot in Tennessee. Tennessee was the only one of ten states where Lincoln was not on the ballot that would be carried by a candidate other than Breckinridge. Nonetheless, this is the last election in whichUnionistCocke County andHancock County were not carried by the Republican presidential nominee.[1]
