English-born photographerRobert Jefferson Bingham creates the first photographiccatalogue raisonné, depicting the works of French painterPaul Delaroche (d.1856) (Oeuvre de Paul Delaroche, reproduit en photographie par Bingham, accompagné d'une notice sur la vie et les oeuvres de Paul Delaroche), published byGoupil & Cie in Paris.^[3] Goupil also begins publication of mass editions of photographic reproductions of popular paintings.^[4]
