The1857 Minnesota lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on 13 October 1857 in order to elect the firstlieutenant governor of Minnesota upon Minnesotaacquiring statehood on 11 May 1858.Democratic nominee andincumbent member of theMinnesota House of RepresentativesWilliam Holcombe defeatedRepublican nominee John Ide.[1]
On election day, 13 October 1857,Democratic nomineeWilliam Holcombe won the election by a margin of 1,155 votes against his opponentRepublican nominee John Ide, thereby gaining Democratic control over the office of lieutenant governor. Holcombe was sworn in as the 1stlieutenant governor of Minnesota on 24 May 1858.[2]
