The1853Stamford by-election was held on 17 July 1853, when the incumbentConservative MPJohn Charles Herriesresigned due to ill health.[1] The by-election was won by theConservative Party candidate and future Prime Minister,Robert Gasgoyne-Cecil, who stood unopposed.[2]
