Maryland voted for theNational Republican candidate,John Quincy Adams, over theDemocratic candidate,Andrew Jackson. Adams won Maryland by a margin of 0.5%. Also, this was the first time that the winner of the state's popular vote did not vote for the winning Presidential candidate.
