On election day, December 13, 1824, incumbentDemocratic-Republican governorSamuel Stevens Jr. was re-elected by theMaryland General Assembly, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of governor. Stevens was sworn in for his third term on January 3, 1825.[2]
