On election day, 5 April 1819, incumbentFederalist GovernorJohn Brooks won re-election by a margin of 7,604 votes against his opponentDemocratic-Republican candidateBenjamin Williams Crowninshield, thereby retaining Federalist control over the office of Governor. Brooks was sworn in for his fourth term on 31 May 1819.[2]
