The1818 Illinois lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on 17 September 1818 in order to elect the firstlieutenant governor of Illinois uponIllinoisacquiring statehood on 3 December 1818.Democratic-Republican candidatePierre Menard defeated fellowDemocratic-Republican candidates William L. Reynolds and Edward N. Cullom.
On election day, 17 September 1818,Democratic-Republican candidatePierre Menard won the election by a margin of 1,219 votes against his foremost opponent and fellowDemocratic-Republican candidate William L. Reynolds, thereby gaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. Menard was sworn in as the 1stlieutenant governor of Illinois on 6 October 1818.[1]
