On election day, 3 April 1811,Federalist nomineeWilliam Jones won the election by a margin of 234 votes against his opponent incumbentDemocratic-Republican governorJames Fenner, thereby gainingFederalist control over the office of governor. Jones was sworn in as the 8thgovernor of Rhode Island on 1 May 1811.[2]
