The1795 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on October 6, 1795.[1] TheFederalist formercouncilorGunning Bedford Sr. defeated theDemocratic-Republican senator fromNew Castle CountyArchibald Alexander.[2]
The election was seen as a referendum on theJay Treaty, which the Democratic-Republicans opposed.[3] Alexander was listed as the "Anti-Treaty" candidate in theAurora General Advertiser.[4]
