Going by themiddle chronology, theBabylonian Empire saw the death of its king,Sin-Muballit in c. 1792 BC. He was succeeded byHammurabi, who would go on to compose theCode of Hammurabi, the best-preserved legal text from theancient Near East.Shamshi-Adad I, king ofAssyria, continued his conquests, defeatingYahdun-Lim ofMari.
TheMiddle Kingdom of Egypt was ruled by theThirteenth Dynasty at this time. The chronology of Pharaohs during this decade is uncertain, butSonbef,Sekhemkare,Ameny Qemau, andHotepibre have been suggested to rule during this decade.
TheCemetery H culture had developed by this time in northern India: distinguishing features of this culture include the use ofcremation of human remains, reddish pottery, apparent breakdown of widespread trade, andrice farming. In China, the semi-legendaryXia Dynasty was the dominant political force, and was possibly ruled byJin of Xia at this time.
