The1786 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on October 27, 1786.[1] The judge of theDelaware Court of Common PleasThomas Collins was electedpresident of Delaware for a term of three years.[2]
Theconservativepolitical faction inDelaware politics had regained the ascendancy following their defeat in thelast election, and in 1786 took control of theDelaware House of Assembly. Collins, amilitia officer and respectedlandowner fromKent County, Delaware, was considered broadly acceptable to all factions.[3]
The election was conducted by theDelaware General Assembly. Collins was elected unanimously on the first ballot.[2] The number of votes cast was not recorded.[1]
