Spring – The first complete printed translation of theNew Testament into English, byWilliam Tyndale (anonymously), arrives in England fromGermany, printing having been completed inWorms by Peter Schöffer the younger, with other copies being printed inAmsterdam.^[1]
c. September – Following theBattle of Mohács, theBibliotheca Corviniana inOfen is destroyed by troops of theOttoman Empire.^[2]
September 6 – The first complete Dutch-language translation of the Bible is printed byJacob van Liesvelt inAntwerp.^[3]
October –Cuthbert Tunstall,Bishop of London, attempts to collect all copies of Tyndale's New Testament in his diocese and burn them.
