141st meridian east
The 141st meridian divides the island ofNew Guinea betweenIndonesia (in green) andPapua New Guinea above the northern crossing of theFly River with said meridian.
InAustralia the meridian defines part of the border ofSouth Australia withQueensland, all of its border withNew South Wales, and it approximates its border withVictoria.

The141st meridian east ofGreenwich is a line oflongitude that extends from theNorth Pole across theArctic Ocean,Asia, thePacific Ocean,Australasia, theIndian Ocean, theSouthern Ocean, andAntarctica to theSouth Pole.

The 141st meridian east forms agreat circle with the39th meridian west.

As a border

[edit]

On the island ofNew Guinea, the meridian defines part of the land border betweenIndonesia on the west andPapua New Guinea on the east. TheFly River forms the border where it flows west of the 141st meridian. South of the Fly, the border runs slightly to the east of, and parallel to, the meridian (seeIndonesia–Papua New Guinea border).

InAustralia, it forms the eastern boundary of the state ofSouth Australia, borderingQueensland andNew South Wales. The border betweenSouth Australia andVictoria was originally proclaimed to be exactly on the 141st meridian, but measurement errors resulted in the present border being about 3.6 km (2.2 mi) west of this line at 140°57'45" (seeSouth Australia–Victoria border dispute).
