History

The company was officially formed on 11 September 2010, founded byCD Projekt andMetropolis Software developers and staff members.[1][2] Currently, they employ approximately 299 people.[3] The company's goal is to create games suitable for bothhardcore gamers as well ascasual gamers.[1] They are well known for developingAnomaly: Warzone Earth, areal-time strategy reversedtower defense,[4] andThis War of Mine, which was often praised by critics for its depiction of civilians in a city under a siege similar to thesiege of Sarajevo.[5]

The studio's 2018 release,Frostpunk, sold over 250,000 copies in its first three days.Frostpunk depicts adystopianVictorian England that has been overtaken by the frost, and the player is tasked with managing humanity's last city.[6] In 2020, it was revealed that the company was investing $21 million to fund the development of three projects and four games signed to its publishing labels. One of them,Frostpunk 2, was announced on 12 August 2021[7] and released on 20 September 2024.[8]
