(7888) 1993 UC is anear-Earthminor planet in theApollo group.[1] It was discovered byRobert H. McNaught at theSiding Spring Observatory inCoonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia, on 20 October 1993.[1] The asteroid has an observation arc of 34 years and has a well determined orbit.[1] Its estimated size is 2.3 to 5.2 km.[4]
On 20 March 2013, the asteroid passed 49lunar distances or 0.12598 AU (18,846,000 km; 11,711,000 mi) from Earth at a relative velocity of 21.8 km/s (49,000 mph).[1] The approach posed no threat to Earth. (7888) 1993 UC is not classified as apotentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) because its Earth MOID (Minimum Orbit Intersection Distance) is only 0.084 AU,[1] and only objects with an Earth MOID less than 0.05 AU are considered PHAs.[5]
It was discovered to be abinary asteroid byArecibo Observatory in March 2013.[6]
